For his sixth birthday, Don Harvey’s parents took him to Korvette’s Department Store and told him he could pick out anything he wanted. He chose a plastic Emenee Guitar and began a life-long love affair with the instrument. He started taking lessons and within a few years was playing songs by ear off the radio.
Don's Music
Don formed the group Catbox in Los Angeles to back up his lontime friend, singer Rita O'Brien (The Screaming Eagle). After several raucous gigs, he moved back to New York where he is keeping his chops in shape and looking for his next musical endeavor.
The band, comprised of Chris Kingins on keyboards, Vasco Agnoli on bass, Michael Bembenick on drums, Ted Harvey on guitar and vocals, and Don on guitar, went into the studio to record eleven original songs. They released the album MESSED UP HEAD with the addition of the previously recorded "You're Stoned Man" as a twelve-song CD.
He played in several bands in junior high and high school including the Lakeshore High Jazz Ensemble, and won the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award for the year's best soloist. Faced with an opportunity to attend the Berkeley Conservatory of Music in Boston, he chose instead to go to the University of Michigan where he eventually turned to acting as a profession.
After a few years in the business Don moved to San Francisco to join his brother Ted who had compiled a great pre-grunge, retro-70's group called The Mudpuppies. Ted, a gifted singer/composer had a load of great original songs and a single called "You're Stoned Man" which was getting airplay on college radio stations in the Bay Area. Don came aboard as lead guitar.
